Light Weight Directory Access (LDAP)

Light Weight Directory Access(LDAP) is a protocol built on top of TCP/IP. LDAP facilitates directory client to access directory server and allows the client to perform directory operations and share directory data. Active Directory implements the LDAP attribute draft specifications and the IETF standards for LDAP versions 2 and 3.

LDAP provides an efficient way to access directory services without the much complexity as other directory service protocols have. LDAP defines set of operations to be performed to query and modify information in a directory and to securely access directory information. LDAP also be used to find or enumerate directory objects and to query or administer Active Directory.
